One statement, sorted in one clean pass.
Your bank statement is a long list of transactions with cryptic descriptions. StatementSort reads all 142 of them, sorts each one into the right accounting category, and works out the GST — following clear rules, not a model’s guess. Anything genuinely too vague to be sure of, it leaves for you to decide.
Sort your bank statement into accounts · For bookkeepers & business owners
What it is
Why it follows rules, not guesses.
Every bank statement has to be sorted. Your bank lists every transaction with a short, often cryptic description. Before the books are done or the tax is lodged, each line has to be put into the right category — is this payment fuel, or freight, or wages? — and its GST worked out. Done by hand, that’s slow, repetitive work.
Sorted into your own categories. StatementSort puts each transaction into your own list of accounting categories (your “chart of accounts” — the set of buckets your books are organised into), and works out the GST for each line. Not a generic guess: your categories, your rules.
Rules you can read — not a model guessing. Every suggestion comes from a plain rule you can look at and change, not from an AI making a call you can’t check. GST follows the category, and the category follows a rule that’s written down. For someone who has to answer for these numbers, that’s the point: it’s predictable, and you can see exactly why every line landed where it did.
Click the grid and drive it. Every keystroke lands in the frame it was pressed — selection, accept and reassign all repaint only the cells that changed. Try holding the down arrow: the cursor moves at the speed of your key repeat, because there is nothing in the way of it.
Built to be fast.
Someone sorting a quarter’s statements touches this grid hundreds of times an hour. So there’s nothing in the way — no animation to sit through, no delay between keystroke and result. You hold the arrow key and it moves as fast as you do. Every design choice here is about not wasting a second of your time.
What it will not do
- Sort a transaction it has no rule for (nine lines sit blank rather than a “miscellaneous” bucket).
- Guess the GST.
- Split a mixed transaction.
- Lodge anything (lodging your BAS — the GST return you file with the ATO — stays with you).
Every line sorted where it belongs — or left for you to decide.
